Rocky Mountain Finishes

Rocky Mountain Finishes was founded in 2021 in Craig, Colorado with one goal: give builders, contractors, and designers in mountain markets access to factory-quality prefinished materials without the lead times, minimums, and complexity of dealing with out-of-state suppliers.

We operate a full pre-finishing facility in Craig, CO, finishing LP SmartSide, James Hardie, Allura, natural wood species, thermally modified wood, interior doors, trim, decking, and more. Every product leaves our facility sealed on all six sides, finished to spec, and staged for delivery to your jobsite.

Whether you’re building a custom mountain home in Steamboat Springs, a resort development in Vail, or a commercial project anywhere across Colorado and beyond, we finish the materials so your crew can install them.

Step 1:

Product Development

We work with you to identify the right materials for your project. Species, profile, finish type, color — we spec it out before anything is ordered so there are no surprises at the facility or on the jobsite.

Step 2:

Proposal and Specification

We put together a detailed proposal with quantities, finish specs, and pricing. You’ll know exactly what you’re getting and what it costs before you commit. No ambiguity, no change orders after the fact.

Step 3:

Order production

Once the order is confirmed and the deposit is received, materials are procured and moved through our finishing facility in Craig, CO. We coat every piece on all six sides, cure it properly, and package it for delivery.

Step 4:

Delivery and Support

Finished materials ship from our facility in Craig, CO staged and ready to install. Every order includes touch-up coatings so your crew can address nail points and cut ends in the field without calling a painter. We also provide color-matched caulking and nails.

About Prefinishing

What Is Prefinishing?

Prefinishing means the coating goes on at the factory, not on the jobsite. Instead of raw materials arriving on a truck and waiting on a painter to show up, finish the boards, and let them dry, your materials arrive sealed, cured, and ready to install the day they’re unloaded.

At Rocky Mountain Finishes, every exterior product is coated on all six sides — face, back, edges, and ends. That full coverage is what makes prefinished materials perform better at altitude. In Colorado’s mountain climate, moisture gets in through uncoated backs and ends first. Sealing all six sides prevents that, which is why prefinished materials last significantly longer than field-painted alternatives in high-altitude, freeze-thaw environments.

Interior products are finished with a protective clear coat in factory-controlled conditions, giving you consistent sheen and coverage across every piece. No brush marks, no runs, no variation from board to board.

The result for your crew: no painters to schedule, no dry time to wait on, and no weather holding up an exterior coat. Materials go from the truck to the wall.

After attempting to obtain a large order of Doors, Baseboards and Trim from both Lowes and Ace with little success and exorbitant pricing, I was informed that Rocky Mountain Finishes could obtain doors and paint faster, for less and at a higher quality. I took my chances and I was not disappointed. Jacob Shirar contacted me immediately, kept me in the loop, provided same day correspondence on any questions and the outcome was as follows. We were able to get solid core doors for the entire home with beautiful paneling, 5 1/4 inch trim all finished and painted black by the team at Rocky Mountain Finishes and delivered to our home for the project within 3 weeks of ordering. The big box stores had a 6-8 week lead time with unpredictable results based on our experience. Being a local company, they were able to accomplish this project in a timely fashion and the end product was an A++. We will NEVER use any other company for these types of project if we are within 200 miles of Jacob and his team.
